Challenge

Fresenius Kabi, part of the Fresenius Group which tallied over €8 billion in sales in 2023 and employed around 43,000 people globally, needed to support nutrition teams across primary care and senior-care settings. They lacked digital tools for patient monitoring, intelligent product lookup, and data-driven decision‑making, resulting in inefficiencies during nutritional assessment and product recommendation workflows.

Key objectives

  • Enable nutrition teams in healthcare centers to easily track patients' nutritional progress.

  • Provide fast access to Fresenius Kabi’s medical nutrition and infusion product catalog via smart search and filtering.

  • Offer admin capabilities: user and permission management, clinic/patient data dashboards, and reporting.

  • Tailor UX for distinct user groups: primary care and elderly‐care professionals.

Solution

  1. Stakeholder Analysis & Research
Engaged key Fresenius stakeholders and mapped user roles and workflow needs, differentiating between field‑based primary care and institutional elder‑care contexts.

  2. User Flows & Information Architecture
Designed separate UX flows for each user group, optimizing ease‑of‑use and task completion within mobile app constraints.

  3. Technical & Data Architecture
Mapped backend architecture, defined the data model, key KPIs, and data sources to support patient tracking, product lookup, and reporting features.

  4. UX/UI Design & Prototyping
Created interface explorations and wireframes, prioritized features, then progressed through fidelity stages with iterative testing and validation sessions.

  5. Product Implementation
Delivered two mobile apps, one for patient nutritional assessment and follow‑up, the other for smart vademecum / product recommendation, and an admin dashboard for user management and data visualization.
